Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L Review

In-depth review of the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L - a new lightweight camera bag that's stylish, comfortable, and packs plenty of gear for its size.

At the end of 2018, Peak Design revealed a complete overhaul of their Everyday bag range. The Everyday Line V2 introduced new colourways – midnight and bone – as well as completely new bags and new sizes of existing bags.

It was quite an impressive reveal, with ten new bags in total.

The social media pages of photography groups lit up with the news – especially since it was just before the holiday season.

One bag in particular really impressed me and that was the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L. It stood out to me both as an everyday carry and, more importantly, as a small discreet bag for street photography.

Rounding out their lineup of camera sling bags, Peak Design also announced a remake of their 10L Sling and a much smaller 3L Sling.

I was excited to be provided with a bag for this review and I have to admit that it’s a perfect bag for me. It serves as a very stylish everyday carry bag that meets all of my man-bag needs.

Further to this, I can carry a Fujifilm camera and accessories comfortably.

Build & Appearance

The Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L sits comfortably across the back.

The Peak Design Everyday Sling is made from highly durable materials and fixtures, both inside and out. Every little detail just feels tough and well constructed, but not in an unyielding way.

The outer shell of the bag has the look of a tight weave canvas but without the waxy feeling. It is, in fact, a 400D nylon that has been manufactured from 100% recycled plastic. Well done to Peak Design as the bag also boasts a Climate Neutral Certification.

Overall, the bag feels incredibly solid and it would take considerable effort to seriously damage or even scuff the outer surface.

The new Ultra-Zips on the Everyday Sling are said to be super durable, weatherproof and will not snag at all. Equally, the straps and hardware are all made from high-grade materials to ensure comfort and security.

The bag also comes in three colourways: Midnight (dark blue), Ash (light grey) and Black.

At the end of the day, this is a great looking bag with a stylish design and subtle features. Every inch of the bag has been considered throughout the design process to deliver a contemporary bag like no other.

Exterior Features

The Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L features super durable and weatherproof Ultra Zips.

The Peak Design Everyday Sling initially has a very minimalistic appeal as there does not seem to be many external features. But in reality, there are some exceptional features on the exterior that are not boastful or obvious in their function.

That’s the beauty of brilliant design work: the overall function of the bag is not obvious, unlike other camera bags.

Starting at the back of the bag, the exterior wall is padded and has a full-size grab handle attached to it. Also attached to the rear of the bag is the shoulder strap system.

This shoulder strap has some unique complexities but is still easy to use. The strap is configured to be worn across your left shoulder so that you can swing the bag around on the right side of your body to gain access.

It’s also possible to reverse this so that you can wear it across your right shoulder comfortably.

The centre of the strap features fixed padded support that makes carrying the bag more comfortable. At one end there is ample strap that can be adjusted via a buckle. At the other end of the shoulder pad is an aluminium buckle that allows you to unclip the bag from your body rather than having to lift it over your head.

Again, this side of the strap has ample excess strap and features an alloy strap slider (the same as featured in Peak Design’s slide camera straps) that allows for the length to be quickly adjusted.

Amazing design and quality materials result in highly durable hardware on the Everday Sling 6L.

I really appreciate the amount of extra strap provided as it makes the Everday Sling comfortable for people with larger frames. Any excess strap at either end can be tucked away into a small opening in the rear of the bag.

The straps are fixed to the bag via unique swivelling fixtures that each provide a 90-degree range and assist the bag in conforming to your body.

The main bag compartment is accessed via a new Ultra-Zip with two zip pulls, each with a small alloy O-ring and a nylon puller. Those two O-rings can be overlapped so that you can fit a small security lock to secure the bag.

When fully open, the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L presents like a clamshell with a broad enough opening to access and retrieve your gear with ease. Gussetted flexible sidewalls just inside the bag prevent it from opening all the way and spilling out your contents.

The front of the bag features a single zip horizontally across it. This pocket would be ideal for holding a smartphone or a thin wallet.

The zipper for this pocket is hidden by an overhang that features a small strip of new-buck leather with the Peak Design name embossed on it.

The Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L features rotating attachments that make for a comfortable carry.

The sidewalls of the Everyday Sling appear to have no features, however, both sides have a length of the doubled-over nylon material laying tight against the bag. These allow you to securely attach a Peak Design Capture Clip to the bag. The clip is designed to secure a camera to the exterior of the bag for quick access and to free-up interior capacity.

Finally, each of the four bottom corners of the bag features short nylon loops. The loops are there for you to utilise the two included Cord Hook straps that are made of nylon and have aluminium hooks at each end.

With these straps, you could easily attach a jacket or even a lightweight travel tripod to the bottom of the sling.

Interior Features

The interior of the Everyday Sling 6L allows for a considerable amount of flexibility in how your store gear.

The interior of the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L is equally as well designed and considerate of the possible uses this bag will have.

The main compartment has velcro walls on the front and rear of the interior. This is to enable the arrangement of the contents of your bag with the use of two included dividers.

The Peak Design FlexFold dividers are a key part of the Everyday series of bags and give a large amount of flexibility – especially when packing camera gear. The dividers stand upright to about three-quarters of the height of the interior of the bag.

The Everyday Sling 6L comes with two Flexfold dividers that accommodate lenses of any size.

The divider would enable you to store a taller lens upright in the bag and have it secure. Alternatively, with the same divider in place, you can first place a small lens and then fold down the hidden wall of the divider to form a shelf.  This shelf could then house a second smaller lens or another piece of gear.

With these two clever origami-like dividers, you could organise and safely carry several lenses within the Everyday Sling. Or, take them out completely and comfortably house a camera with a zoom lens.

There is a thin but supportive divider at the rear of the main compartment that will allow for an 11-inch tablet to be fitted with dimensions of 25cm x 18cm x .6cm (9.74″ x 7.02″ x 0.23″).

The small internal pocket allows for storage of spare batteries, memory cards and other small items.

The two side walls of the interior each feature soft and slightly stretchy pockets that could be used to house cleaning gear or keys.

Finally, at the front of the interior, there is a single zippered pocket. Within that, there are four stitched divided pockets that are ideal for carrying spare batteries or memory cards.

Two of the pockets have a dark grey stitch on the front and the other two have a black stitch. This way, you could use the light grey pockets to indicate used batteries and the black ones to indicate full batteries.

The same method applies to the two sidewall pockets.

Storage Capacity

This is the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L with my everyday carry gear.

As an everyday carry I can fit:

  • Fujifilm X70
  • Camera cleaning kit
  • Glasses case
  • Business card case
  • Powerbank
  • Key
  • iPhone (not pictured)
  • Moleskine notebook and pen
  • Wallet
  • Spare battery

The Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L can hold a considerable amount of gear, especially with a mirrorless kit.

As a camera kit I can carry:

Due to the flexibility of the bag and the ability to transform it in a multitude of ways, the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L could carry a decent amount of photography gear.

In one scenario, you could carry a small street style camera such as a Fujifilm X100F or Ricoh GRIII and still have ample room for a water bottle, glasses and all your everyday carry items.

In another scenario, you could comfortably carry a Sony A7R III with a 24-70 lens along with all your spare batteries and memory cards. Or, you can configure this bag for everything in between.

The great thing about this new range of Peak Design bags is that if you want a sling a little smaller there is a 3-litre version and if you want one bigger then there is the 10-litre.

Ease of Use/Comfort

The Everyday Sling 6L allows for easy access to your gear.

Being a bigger guy, I sometimes struggle to find slings that have a good amount of strap length. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did the Everyday Sling 6L have a surplus of the strap, but that the bag was incredibly comfortable to wear.

With the bag strap at your desired length, the bag will fit snuggly to your body and, unless you are jumping around, does not seem to bounce against your back.

The bag can also be worn with the strap passing around your waist. This requires rearranging the strap so that the padded section is tucked away into a cavity in the rear wall of the bag.

The slider function on the bag allows you to tighten and loosen the strap depending on your activities. Equally, the bag quickly and comfortably swings around from the rear of your body to the front and back again. This is especially useful to quickly access your gear or carry the bag in front of you in crowded locations.

While the front pocket is tight, it is not intended to hold much more than loose change or perhaps a smartphone.

The main compartment freely opens via the dual zipper-pulls – either two-handed or one-handed. You certainly don’t feel like you are wrestling with your gear or bag.

Value for Money + Discount Code

The Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L retails for around $100 US (click the button below for latest pricing).

When I stop and think about just how great a bag this is, I think that is exceptional value for money. Other bag brands are charging higher prices for bags with far less going for them, let alone having the quality this bag has.

Getting a new everyday carry bag or camera bag should be an investment in securely and comfortably protecting your daily gear.

Think about how much the gear we carry around is worth and you’ll see that making a wise investment is critical. The Everyday Sling is such an investment as it will provide you with the peace of mind that your gear is safe and secure.

Further to this, you will feel comfortable and look stylish carrying your gear all day long.

Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L Review | Conclusion

I’ve had the good fortune to test and play with a lot of camera bags and every time I pick up a Peak Design bag, I am instantly impressed with its qualities.

The quality of the materials used and the overall constructions of the bag are amazing. The thoughtfulness that went into its design, inside and out, is obvious from the first glance.

The Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L is no exception and is clearly a new breed of bag coming from such a trusted and respected brand. This sling has a level of flexibility that is hard to find in bags without it being overly boastful and standing out as a camera bag.

The Everyday Sling is discreet in its purpose and, for me, that makes it a perfect everyday carry bag for day to day or for street photography.

And, as mentioned, if I wanted to pack a larger kit with more lenses, I can easily do that thanks to the FlexFold dividers.

I know that with this sling my gear will be safe and I can be comfortable in how I carry it.
