Best Non-Fuji Lenses for Fuji Cameras
Looking for the best non-Fuji lenses for your Fuji camera? From Rokinon to Zeiss, check out this non-native lens guide for Fujifilm systems.
By Greg Cromie
This is a guide to the best non-Fuji lenses for Fuji cameras (i.e. third party lenses for the Fujifilm X mount).
Even if your camera bag is overflowing with all the best Fuji lenses available here in 2023, there’s still a lot of fun to be had with products made by third-party manufacturers.
Non-Fuji lenses offer a few distinct advantages to their native counterparts.
They’re usually more affordable, they can sometimes be ‘faster’ (i.e. offer a wider maximum aperture), and finally, they may produce some unusual, intangible image quality, such as a lens flare or vignetting.
The Rokinon delivers incredible image sharpness, and for such an ultra-wide-angle the distortion is minimal.
Obviously, this isn’t to everyone’s taste – but we still recommend you have a play around with a non-native lens.
If you’re keen on adapting vintage lenses or Canon/Nikon DSLR lenses for use with your Fujifilm camera, this isn’t the article for you – we’ve concentrated on lenses that can be screwed right on to a Fujifillm camera without the need of an adapter or other accessory.
Let’s dive into the recommendations!

1. Rokinon 12mm f/2
The Rokinon 12mm f/2 (review) is one of the widest third party lenses available for the Fujifilm X system. This ultra-wide lens will provide you with great freedom when shooting creative architecture or landscape images.
The Rokinon delivers incredible image sharpness, and for such an ultra-wide-angle the distortion is minimal.
Plus, its wide aperture allows for low light photography and significant subject separation.
This lens has an excellent build quality and ergonomics, and in terms of value, retails for around US$300.
With no autofocus system, those not familiar with manual focus will have a small learning curve to overcome.
2. Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 II
When searching for the best non-Fuji lenses it’s hard to ignore the Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 II. And who can pass up the opportunity to shoot with an aperture as wide as f/0.95?
The Mitakon makes an excellent portrait lens as you get nice compression for head-shots and significant fall off with depth of field when wide open.
The lens is compact and built from sturdy plastics with a slightly wobbly glide on the manual focus ring and the aperture ring.
With this lens, you get beautiful subject separation between foreground and background. Edge to edge is not as sharp until you stop down your aperture.
At under US$500, this lens is a great alternative to a compact portrait lens.
3. Rokinon 50mm f/1.2
The Rokinon 50mm f/1.2 is a great budget level portrait lens that will give you super tight compression and a thin focal plane.
Despite its considerably large lens hood, the Rokinon is quite compact and lightweight. Much like the Rokinon 12mm, this lens has good build quality although the mount is not as tight as it could be when connecting to a Fujifilm body.
Wide-open at f/1.2, the image output is excellent with great levels of detail on your centre subject.
Edge to edge, the images are not as sharp until you begin to step down the aperture.
As mentioned, this a budget portrait lens and one of the very popular non-Fuji lenses for Fujifilm cameras.
4. Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8
The Touit 50mm f/2.8 has the stylish design and ergonomics you would expect from a Zeiss product.
Excellent build quality and optics mean the Zeiss will deliver great user experience and exceptional image quality.
Further to this, the lens operates as a true 1:1 macro for detailed close-up work.
While not as compact as other lenses in this guide, when paired with a Fujifilm camera the lens will operate with full autofocus.
This is a top non-Fuji lens for Fuji cameras and has a price tag of under US$1,000. It’s true to say that with this lens, you get what you pay for.
5. Rokinon 35mm f/1.2
As with the other Rokinon lenses in this guide, the 35mm f/1.2 delivers exceptional performance at a budget price.
This is another example of a compact lens perfect for travel or portraiture. The wide aperture will ensure subject separation and softened background and foreground elements.
Image output is fantastic with some softening in the corners until you stop down your aperture.
While the Rokinon does not feature autofocus, the focusing system operates smoothly other than when wide open. With such a thin focal plane it can be difficult to gain crisp subject focus.
At just under US$370, it would make a handy and compact addition to your Fujifilm kit.
