Line Harklau

Hi! My name is Line Hårklau and I’m a photojournalist based in Oslo. I grew up having mountains everywhere I looked, my work is primarily focused around humans and their relationship with nature.

Living in a world where nature is threatened, I hope what I do can inspire people to take care of the planet.

I started out with a Canon Powershot G12 and since then I have stuck with Canon. My camera at the moment is Canon 5D mark IV. I upgraded from 5D mark III because of the better video functionality.

I know there are a lot of smaller and lighter mirrorless cameras out there, but my camera has somehow become part of my body and I like that it feels heavy in my hands.

Since I often find myself hiking or skiing, I need to carry a lot of other stuff and often bring only one lens, the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8. It is very versatile as I can shoot pretty much anything with it.

The downside of using this lens most of the time is that it’s easy to become lazy. Instead of moving around I notice that I use the zoom a lot. Therefore, I try to use prime lenses when I have the opportunity.

My favourite prime lens for portraits is the Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4. The Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 works for pretty much anything else.

Both lenses are super sharp, and they are not as expensive as original Canons.

I have also rediscovered my Canon 100mm f/2.8 L macro. Getting really close into details is fun and brings more variation into the material. The lens also works surprisingly well photographing landscapes in the distance, the detail level is amazing.

When I shoot video, I use the RødeLink Filmmaker Kit and Zoom H5 for recording audio. I also use the Zoom H5 a lot to record interviews as I often both photograph and write my stories.
