Bertrand Bernager
Hi everyone! My name is Bertrand Bernager and I’m 19 years old. I’m a French photographer based in Paris. Photography has been my main passion since 2014 and my goal is to become a full-time photographer.
My work is focused on architecture, travel, street life and long exposure photography.
I love to discover the biggest cities in the world (Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York…) that are such fantastic playgrounds to explore. I try to discover unusual places in these cities and do some photo projects about their architectural identity.
The long exposure photography is a technique that I really enjoy practicing, especially to play with the movement of the human bodies that run in the city.
I’ve begun a project about long exposure during marathons; they create a sort of original “human rainbow”. For the moment I’ve just covered the Paris marathon, but in the future, I’m trying to continue this project with some other famous marathons.
Since 2017 I’ve had the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Sony Alpha camera as part of the Sony Europe Imaging Ambassador program. This is truly a dream to work with this very innovative brand that has developed an amazing and versatile mirrorless system that I enjoy using every day!
Here is the list and brief description of my main gear:
Sony A7RIII: For my usage, it’s the perfect all-around camera: it has great image quality with the 42mp full-frame sensor that is very useful for huge print, extremely fast autofocus with Eye-AF and 10fps, good ergonomics, a sharp and pleasant-to-use viewfinder…
I’ve added a SmallRig A7RIII L-Bracket on it for quick use on a tripod.
Sony A6000: I have two of these APS-C cameras that offer good image quality, fast autofocus with 11fps, a light and compact body… for a reasonable price.
I began with one of these and it’s a very interesting first camera to go into photography with. These are my backup devices and it’s always interesting for having two different lenses ready at the same time.
Sony RX100 VA: This is my everyday camera when I go to school and when I don’t want to carry all of my gear or when I want to be discreet. It uses a 24-70mm f/1.8-2,8 lens so it’s useful at night, and with an extremely fast autofocus and no more than 24fps continuous shooting offers some interesting creative opportunities!
Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G-Master: This lens is really impressive with a great level of sharpness that does justice to the 42mp on the A7RIII. It has a tropicalized body and is pretty compact and lightweight for an f/2.8 zoom… It has the perfect optics for architectural pics.
Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G-Master: A solid body that gives a lot of control, has a great level of sharpness, and even if it’s a heavy lens the autofocus motor system makes the job very fast. The aspect of the bokeh at f/2.8 is so good as well.
Sony 55mm f/1.8 ZA: A very compact prime lens with great sharpness that is my favorite option for street photography.
Sony SF-G 32 gb: I’ve got 4 of these extremely fast SD cards (300 mo/s) that are the best option for a fluid workflow. I also have some SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I 64 gb cards that have a very good quality/price ratio.
Samsung portable SSD T5 500 gb: Fast, solid and compact storage. As of this year I only use SSD for portable storage and important files because they offer durability and amazing speed that a regular HDD can’t. I’m looking for a WD 500GB My Passport Wireless SSD that can be an interesting option for travel safe storage.
Hoya PRO ND1000: I use it for my day and sometime night long exposure pics. I’ve one in 77 mm and one in 82 mm, these are some of the best ND filters on the market and they don’t affect the image quality at all.
I’ve also got a Kendo PRO1 D Lotus ND32 82mm filter that I use for sunset/sunset long exposure.
Manfrotto Element Traveller Big Carbon Fiber tripod: This tripod checks all the boxes I was looking for as it holds equipment as heavy as 17.6 lb while weighing only 3.1 lb and is capable of a maximum height of 64.6″ with 180 degrees legs.
I’ve added an Utebit 360 degrees panoramic tripod head clamp to be even more useful.
Sony NP-FW50 and Sony NP-FZ100: Spare battery in case of a full day shooting even if the stamina of the A7RIII is capable of around 700 shots.
Sony RMTDSLR2 Wireless Remote: This infrared remote is essential for long exposure and has a number of buttons that allow you to control the whole camera.
Godox V860II-S: Combined with the Godox Xpro-S TTL Wireless Flash Trigger this is a nice quality/price ratio that does the job right.
Lowepro Flipside Trek BP 350 AW Backpack: The perfect mix between a hiking backpack and a camera backpack. It has rear camera gear access that allows you to get your gear without putting the bag down and a solid build quality.
Because my grandmother and my uncle are photographers they gave me a lot of their film material, so for fun I use a Leica M3 (which was completely revised this year) with an incredible Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M Aspherical silver lens. These are real works of art !
I’ve got a Leica Flex with a Leica Elmarit-R 28mm f/2.8 and Leica Elmarit-R 90mm f/2.8 lenses and also a Nikon 55mm f/1.2 that was Nikon’s first ultra-speed f/1.2 lens.
All these optics can be used on Sony Alpha cameras with adapter rings. I use a Novoflex Adapter for Nikon Lenses to Sony E-Mount and a Metabones Adapter Leica R lenses to Sony E-Mount.
Finally, my uncle gaves me his Hasselblad 500 CM and 500 EL/M with 4 Zeiss lenses but they need to be revised.
