Hengki Lee

I am a visual artist and photographer from Jakarta, Indonesia. My genre in photography is fine art mood and I’ve been doing it since 2010.
Actually, I began to get interested in photography in 2004, when I saw a local photographer’s work. I found his work so dramatic and artistic it made me want to know more about photography.
In August 2009, I worked up the courage to buy my first DSLR. And after trying some genres, I noticed some fine art Lensbaby work (fine art genre photographs made with Lensbaby lenses) in an international photography community. I had a feeling that I had to do this kind of photography, and I’ve been doing it ever since.
For gear, I’ve used Sony since the first time I bought my DSLR until now. It just evolved from A-mount DSLR to E-mount Mirrorless ones. I chose Sony the first time I bought my camera because my friend, who is a professional photographer, suggested it. I found that Sony is a quite good camera and easy to operate, so I decided to continue using Sony.
I don’t depend on gear so much for my work, so I don’t use a lot of gear for my photography activity. For me, gear is only a medium for creating works. Our vision and creativity are more important.
Cameras
For a camera, I use Sony a7R II. I chose this camera because it is easy to operate and has a good live view that is quite helpful for me to shoot blurry silhouettes. Besides that, this camera is full frame with quite a big resolution, so I can produce good quality captures.
Lenses
Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic: I chose this lens because of its unique blur character that is very good for making poetic and dreamy photos.
Lensbaby Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 Optic: This has the same blur character as the Sweet 35 but in 50mm focal length.
Lights/Triggers
I don’t use lights/flash.
Bags/Straps
Lowepro bag, the best quality with awesome strength and durability.
Tripods
I don’t use tripods
Hardware & Software
I use PC, and for the software, I use Adobe Photoshop CS 2019 with Alien Skin Exposure plugin for creating artistic or vintage photography effect.

Just be yourself and don’t hesitate to explore your obsessions, fantasies, and visions. By doing so, you will get a strong and unique character in your work.
Don’t limit your creativity by sticking with the rules of photography. Make something surprising or explore something new.
