Hi Ladislava – I’d use AI servo with zone or spot focus.I also rely heavily on Eye AF, but I’m not sure if your camera has this or not.

I use lenses 50 mm f/1,8 and have problems to catch the eye sharply (on f/1,8). I dont know if it is better to use One shot or AI servo? Which focus area (One point or zone)? I was used to use the middle point and recompose but with such wide aperture it is not possible. Shall I move quickly from one focus point to another depending on the scene?
(I try to use the back button for focusing (Focus/On) to make it more quickly.)
Could you please describe your method? Thank you!

Hey Brenda, it would depend on how much light there is – the Sony a7 III with its full frame sensor would perform better at high ISOs than your bridge camera, and I suspect the 28-70mm has a larger max aperture too. Hope that helps!

Enjoyed the article alot, thanks!
I specialize in wildlife (4 legged animals) and was asked by a friend to take some of her 2 legged kids, lol
I was wondering what focal length you find best for kids in an outdoor, non-formal setting? I have a Panasonic bridge camera which has a 24-480 mm fixed lens and my go-to for most of my wildlife is my Sony A7 III (without the 200-600mm) but I would have to use my kit lens 28-70. Which would you try?
Thanks for any tip on this you can give.
Brenda

Thanks Chris – yep, it’s a bang for your buck recommendation. The EM-5 is great too – any in that Olympus range.

I’m pretty new to photography and wanted to ask – when you say that the EM-10 is the best camera for children photography, does that context mainly include price? Or is there something else unique to the EM-10 that makes it suited for photographing children?
I ask because I’m considering between that and the EM-5. If price isn’t in the equation, would you recommend that I get the EM-5 then for children photography, and more?

The 17mm would definitely be my first option, Hilary! The 45mm is great too if have space to stand back from your subject. Best of luck!!

Thanks for the fast reply! Great review as well for OM-D E-M10 Mark III. Do you recommend the getting kit lens, I was thinking of getting 17mm and 45mm instead

Thanks Hilary! The a6000 actually has better AF than most cameras in its price range – that’s odd you weren’t getting the results you wanted. Having said that, the Olympus has even better AF, and paired with a good prime lens (my favourite is this one, you’ll find it much easier to catch those fast moving kids! If you Google the name of the camera + ‘Shotkit’ you’ll find a review of it too. Hope that helps!

I’m just starting out and recently tried out a6000, but it’s way too advanced for me at this point and was overwhelmed trying to figure out certain settings, wasn’t getting sharp shots and even getting blurry subject w 50mm lens, auto focus seemed sluggish and couldn’t catch subject ( my baby). Would you recommend Olympus PEN E-PL9? Or advanced point and shoot like Sony RX100? Or still best bet would be E‑M10 Mark III? I would like to advance my skill set, but I also need something that I can use now to get good shots i.e. beginner proof!
Thanks
