Hi, I am Vanessa Joy, a portrait and wedding photographer in Austin, Texas as well as getting out into New Jersey and New York County.

I’m a Canon Explorer of Light, and I’ve been photographing for over twenty years.

Canon EOS R5 – this is my main camera of choice. The high resolution and easy-focusing system it provides make it a no-brainer for me.

Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 – this is the one lens to rule them all. It is so versatile, and I use it for everything from portrait shoots to weddings.

Canon RF 85mm f/1.2 – quite simply, this is an incredible portrait lens!

Canon RF 135mm f/1.8 – granted, I don’t own this lens as yet, but I will, and it will replace the EF 135mm that is shown in my gear photo.

Profoto B10 – a super reliable and powerful strobe for weddings and portraits.

Profoto A10 – go-to speed light for wedding receptions or light and easy on-location lighting.

KawaProGear – I love this strap, but unfortunately, the company went out of business, and you just can’t get it anymore!

I use a range of editing software, and it just depends on what I’m trying to do. It could be Lightroom, CaptureOne, or Luminar Neo. So many good ones to choose from.

In my bag, I always carry essentials like gels, energy bars, and chapstick to keep me going.

It’s not so much about the gear, more about the photographer, but of course, great gear helps too!
