Try Canva for those simple edits, Glen.

Along with enhancing the photo cropping or enlarging?

Great feedback – yes, I should add that in, Dave. Thanks!

One of the negatives you didn’t mention, though, is some products need a reasonably recent operating system. I use an older Mac which runs Catalina 10.15.7. Photoshop Elements, and maybe some others, require Mac OS 11 or 12, version 12.4 or later. As my computer would need to be replaced for the new version, I can’t use this product.
Luminar Neo, however, can run on Mac 10.14.6 or later, so I can use this without a new computer.
Perhaps in future reviews of editing software you could include minimum system requirements for Windows and Mac.

Photoshop is my favourite! I have purchased a XPPen Deco MW tablet and use it with Photoshop.
I can Remove unwanted elements, improve skin tones, brighten eyes and soften features easily with a digital pen.

No problem, Alan – there’s certainly a lot of great options to choose from, including some useful free ones.

It’s free, quick and it does the basics, probably more than I’ve ever attempted. Thanks for your review of others Mark. It will help me get to the next level.

There are also lots of free online photo editors. You can also take a look at Mockofun. It is an online photo editor with smart photo filters similar to Photoshop.

Before any other consideration, the image accuracy must be examined. I tested a part of the above softwares on an very scientific way with a Vectorscope and Waveform on images taken with many Sony cameras. The colors and white balance of the 320 colors of the test pattern where firts taken with a high end spectroscope. Then, the colors of the decoded RAW photos where compared with the values given by the spectroscope.
With the free Sony Edit.exe (in the Imagin Edge Desktop suite), the hue of the colors are totaly exact, but not their saturation and lightness. The demosaic is almost perfect. The recovery of overexposure works very bad and there is a lak of tools.
With Adobe Camera Raw, the hue, saturation and lighness are not correct, almost in yellow and between cyan and magenta, with very strong deviations. This issue can not be corrected with the Camera Raw tools. The solution is to make a custom DCP file with the free Adobe DNG Profile Editor. The demosaic is very bad with heavy steps in the diagonal lines on fine details. The correction of the chromatic aberrations and the recovery of overexposed parts are perfect, also the lens corrections. Camera Raw is the best program to get a good result with minimum work.
With CaptureOnePro 21, the hue of the colors is bad between red and blue and catastrophic between blue and magenta: on a gradient from red to pink, there is an horrible magenta zone just after the middle of blue: the ICC profiles made by CaptureOne are not correct. The recovery of over exposition is a lot better with Camera Raw. The lens and chromatic aberrations corrections are almost perfect
With DxO 4, the hue, saturation and lightness of many colors are wrong by default. The correct setting for Color is Camera Body and the rendering choise is often another camera model. The demosaic is far from being perfect and the correction of the chromatic aberrations in auto mode is very bad. The recovery of overexposed parts woks good but alters the other parts of the image, what can be corrected with the RGB curve filter.
Rawtherapee is the most powerfull, with a profusion of highly advanced tools that are not present in the other. There is also a lot of demosaic algorithms that you can try to obtain the best sharpness. The auto chromatic aberration correction is perfect. It takes a long time to correctly tune the many settings of the program (over 100), but once done, you can obviously save this in presets. RawTherapee is intended for very advanced users to get a result near the perfection. The lens distorsion correction is done by comparison with the corrected jpeg that the manufacturer includes in the RAW, so that no lens data base is needed, a very intelligent solution. Furthermore, you can see the full unaltered and not demosaised image as taken by the sensor, which shows how higly an image can be distorded by the lens. There is also an sensor histogram which shows if the sensor was overexposed and thus what you can precisely recover in the shadows and highlights. The program is compatible with the Adobe DCP files and all the ICC profiles. You can even chose if you take only a part of the profile and tune the other manually or use a Hald-CLUT!

Yeah I agree – v6 is excellent. We’ll be reviewing it in depth soon. Cheers
