With a conventional camera bag, I’d agree but this bag is design to be used in high theft areas and attaching a tripod to the exterior of a bag like this screams “steal me”. Its a bag that comes with compromises but they are compromises with a purpose.

I have the earlier version of this X25 model and I was surprised what it can packed in the camera compartment. I am able to pack a Sony A7 III + 5 Lens (Sony FE 16-35mm F4, FE 24-105mm F4, FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6, FE 85mm F1.8, FE 50mm F2.5), Nissin i40 Flash, Nisi MC Close-Up Lens, Set of RF Shutter Remote. The current version which you reviewed has improved locking mechanism and exterior material. I whish the next gen will have zipper door camera access on both side, airport luggage pass-through loop, Shimoda explore v2 shoulder strap’ s accessory pocket. That will make this a perfect travel pack with this price point.

The padding strips, while sufficiently thick are not very well shaped and the whole contraption is kind of messy no matter how much effort you expend in trying to have it neat.

The upper and lower separation may be penetrated by a long lens, but getting a Ronin Gimbal in there just doesn’t work.

And something that any “photo” backpack should have is an external attachment for your tripod.

Hi Alec. It’s semi-locked as it attaches to a hook that would make it difficult for a thief to undo while it’s on your back, but it’s not locked like the other compartments.

Can the zipper on the front top pocket, the one with the RFID, be locked on to anything like the side and main compartment? where is the laptop compartment located and is it separate? Thanks!
