Thanks for your well written review of the XS10, a camera I’m very interested in buying. But about 3 years ago you reviewed the X-H1 and loved it. Do you still love it and is it a camera still worth buying today (used of course), or has the caravan moved on?
I’m mainly a stills photographer, but I’m thinking about robustness, weight, handling, sensor size, Japan v China etc.
Be great to hear your thoughts.

I’m sitting on the fence while looks for a good family and travel camera. I was wondering what you thought about the X-S10 compared to the Sony a6400 for these purposes. The Sony AF is constantly raved about, but the X-S10 has IBIS and seems to get more favorable reviews from photographers or people who “know cameras”. Are the differences in AF something an amateur/novice father would really notice? Thanks for your help and the informative article!

Hi Greg

I really do appreciate that you have responded to my query so comprehensively . It’s difficult to get this sort of information and you are the only person that has given me a straight answer, so I thank you for that. I’m currently researching lenses and will have to decide carefully which (and how much I can afford) as they are more expensive compared to Nikon options. I’m going to loan the X-S10 for a weekend so am looking forward to trying it out. Thank you very much x

Hi Sue. Thanks. A lot of people move from DSLR/larger mirrorless kits as they are heavy and cumbersome. I moved from a big Canon kit years ago to Fujifilm as the size and weight reduction made a huge difference to my comfort and joy of photography. Keep in mind that while the Fujifilm XS10 is much smaller and lighter than a DSLR, the lenses are usually also smaller and lighter than Nikon lenses. For example, the Fujifilm XS10 is around 500g and the Fujifilm XF 55-200mm (there is a pic of it in the review) is 580g. The kit has a nice balance to it plus the large grip of the XS10 makes a big difference to balance and control. A Nikon D850 weighs 1kg exactly without a lens. An equivalent 200mm f/4 Nikon lens weighs 580g. If anything, the Nikon equivalent is unbalanced and rear-end heavy. Regardless, the combined Nikon kit is 1.5kg and the Fuji kit is only 1kg. That weight saving equals comfort and less hassle carrying heavy gear. There is a 200mm f/2 Fujifilm prime but it is a huge beast that weighs 2.3kg and costs upwards of AUD$8,000. I would not recommend using the XS10 with that camera – better off with a Fujifilm X-T4 for that. I hope this additional info has helped. I recommend looking at the full range of Fujifilm lenses to see if what they offer matches your needs. Take a look at the sizes and weights – regardless, the lens mount ring on the Fujifilm XS10 will support any of the Fuji lenses. I have reviewed most of the Fuji lenses on Shotkit.com so check out those reviews and build an idea of your ideal kit. Best of luck. https://shotkit.com/gear-reviews/lenses/fujifilm/

I enjoyed reading your review of this camera. I have been considering selling my Nikon kit and buying this model however I can see the camera body is quite petite. Is there a limit to the size of lens that one can practically use on the camera. I’m wondering if it may be a little unbalanced when fitted with something weighty like a 200mm telephoto lens.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi Ikhlaque. From my knowledge, yes you can set ISO to various Auto defaults such as Auto 1 100-800, etc. This should override the camera’s Auto mode when trying to determine ISO. Best of luck. G

a default iso setting is available in Auto.

I have been shooting with a couple of -XE2’s for a number of years….love them, but time to move up to better processor and sensor. Picked up two very nice used X-E3’s, but have not been terribly comfortable with them and the new X-E4’s just seem to “techie” and lacking even basic Fuji buttons and wheels. I know the XS10 is not as button & wheel equipped as the X-T 3 & 4, but, I love the look of that new grip, the smaller size of the body, yet most of the options that the XT-4 offers are there. This looks like my new camera and very much appreciate your review….cheers……

Loving the IBIS, not loving the lack of weather sealing. Would also like a built in ND filter like the X100V.
