I know I am replying a long time after the post but… I hope you got the Tamron 70-180 2.8…

This Tamron 28-200mm is an awesome lens but you’re shooting theater which usually is dim and you really do need the wider aperture for these shots. Most people do not shoot theater so the slower Tamron 28-200mm works very well in most situations.

My main body is an a7iii and my main use for this lens would be to shoot theater and dance shows as a freelancer. The better aperture on the 70-180 is a serious consideration, but I can’t see myself using it that often for theater because I need a lot of the stage to be in focus. My current 24-70 mm is low enough quality that the 28-200 would probably replace it for almost everything because of the extra zoom, so that’s another thing.

As I write this, I’m definitely leaning toward the 28-200, but as I haven’t tried out either, I’d appreciate the opinion of someone more knowledgeable
