I now really enjoy using primes and I currently own the X-T4 and 35mm1.4 and 56mm1.2. I also have the two red badge zooms XF16-55mm2.8 and 50-140mm2.8. Those are both very good, but somehow I rarely pick up the 16-55 while shooting with the 50-140 has a kind of magic to it. My question: for an upcoming travel (street, landscape, people) which lens(es) to take? I can take my 16-55 and use it for everything. But it is pretty heavy for a walkaround lens. I also could perhaps sell my 16-55 and buy either the 23mmf2 or the new 23mm1.4WR for day to day use and take my 56mm or 50-140 for dedicated people or landscape shots. What would you do?

I have just bought the xt4 and the 16_80. Lense as a kit lens.. I have to say I am very disappointed in the sharpness of the images.. At the moment I am using it on Auto settings till I get used to using it.. I don’t know what I am doing wrong.. Or would I be best to use manual settings.. If you have any tips or ideas I would be grateful.. Do I need a better lens..??

Hi Greg,

Thank you for all the information. I am excited to get an X-T4 this summer. I can’t decide what lenses to get. I will get the XF23mmF2 for sure but what I can’t decide on what else to get. I will be moving to Japan in July. Currently, I have Canon and I used my 55-250mm a lot on Safaris. Not that I’ll be going on Safaris much in Japan, but do u recommended purchasing something similar? Thanks so much!

Hi Jozef. That is a brilliant question. Personally, I prefer primes so I would go with the XF23mmF2. This is my favourite lens and has a natural field of view. It is fast and super compact meaning that your overall kit (including the X-T4) is light and discreet. If I was to choose a zoom, then the XF16-55mmF2.8 would be the choice but it is bigger and heavier than most lenses of this style. How about you? What would be your ideal lens for the X-T4? Cheers. G

Hi David,

Congrats on the decision to go with the X-T4. I have owned every entry in the X-T range and they are the best cameras. As for lenses, it all depends on your budget. The 18-55 kit is by far one of the best kit lenses on the market – for any manufacturer. And, it is usually included with the camera at a reasonable price of the bundle. The 16-80 gives you a bit more reach but at a much higher cost. If you want a bit more zoom length then take a look at the 55-200. Built to the same standards and optical performance of the 18-55 – plus at a fraction of the cost of the punchier 50-140. Finally, for landscape, it is hard to go past the 10-24 (either the old version or the new version that is weather sealed). The weather sealed 10-24 with the weather sealed X-T4 would be perfect for the glorious weather of Dartmoor and surrounds. Best of luck and let me know what you decide on. G

I live on Dartmoor so it will be landscape and nature photography, trees, moorland and rivers etc.
