Petar Jurica

My name is Petar Jurica and I am wedding photographer from Croatia, Europe. I get to travel around the world and shoot in all these amazing locations with awesome couples in front of my lens. I feel really blessed that I truly love my work and that this job gives me these awesome opportunities to meet new exciting people, see beautiful places and hang out with fellow photographers…
Before becoming a wedding photographer I used to work as a photojournalist for 14 years in leading regional newspapers, covering different stories and that experience definitely helps me a lot on any wedding day, as wedding photographers have to be at the same time a photojournalist, a fashion photographer and even a sports photographer, in order to catch the best possible image of the wedding.
I really enjoyed my previous job too but after some time I needed new inspiration in photography and surprisingly found it in weddings.
I live in Zagreb with my soul mate Ziva and our little boy Jan…
For the last 10 years I have been using a Domke F2 camera bag (not the same bag :)), it’s light and compact and it does not look like a camera bag that has expensive gear inside, which is perfect as I’m often on the road in an exotic location such as India, Egypt, Lebanon… So I want to be low profile and not look as someone who has a bag full of expensive stuff.
I manage to squeeze into the bag my 2 bodies and 5 lenses (thinking of cutting down the lenses), passport and some energy bars.
I always shoot with 2 Canon 5D Mark III bodies, and mostly my combo of lenses is Sigma 35mm f/1.4
and Canon 50mm f/1.2
. I did start using a body strap a few weddings ago and I am still getting used to it. At least it looks cool!
Canon 24mm f/1.4 – this the lens that I use least, just for some wide angles shots of the ceremony or reception venues.
Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART – my favourite lens and I shoot 80% of weddings with this lens. I could do a whole wedding with it, it just feels right.
Canon 50mm f/1.2 L – it’s usually on my second body in combo with 35mm, using it through the day, for ceremony, reception and portraits.
Canon 85mm f/1.8 – for ceremony when I can’t get close enough… Although I move a lot during a ceremony and try to be as close as possible to the subject. I need to upgrade to Canon 85mm f/1.2
version or wait for Sigma ART… no rush as I really use it just for a small part of the shoot.
Canon 45mm f/2.8 TS-E – I use it depending on my mood, for example the last few weddings when I did take it out from my bag. I am sure I will be back to this great lens, some amazing pictures can be made, especially when the location for portraits isn’t the best… this beauty is there to help.
Lighting: sun, moon, candles, bulbs and Canon 600 EX-RT, but just for the dance shots. I try to use natural and existing light as much as possible.
