Alessandro Della Savia
Hi, my name is Alessandro Della Savia and I am wedding photographer based in Milan, Italy. I shot my first wedding when a friend asked me to replace him back in 2008, and since then I never stopped. I instantly fell in love with the wedding couples and every wedding fills me with new emotions.
Weddings in Italy are usually very stylish and I want to push my attention to all details to the utmost perfection. So my bag is usually very well equipped.
I travel with a Think Tank Airport International V.2.0 Rolling Camera Bag, and here’s what is usually inside on a wedding day:
Canon Eos 1DX – The best camera ever. It’s kind of heavy, but you get used to it and you will feel like driving a Formula 1 racing machine.
Canon 5D Mark III – I use one as a backup and a second camera. Without the Batttery Grip and with a prime lens it’s small enough to stay on my left.
Canon 50mm f/1.2 – Beautiful lens, also very versatile.
Canon 24mm f/1.4 II – Weddings in Italy usually are celebrated in small and dark churches, so this lens is best for a low light ambiance.
Canon 100mm f/2.8 MACRO – Nice to have this lens in the bag. I shoot details with great precision, and it’s also good for portraits.
Canon 600EX-RT – I own four of these, but usually 2 are enough. I use them if it is necessary to create a light environment around the subjects.
Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT: when it is not necessary to mount a Speedlite as the master flash.
HoldFast Money Maker – leather straps: I have two! A Water Buffalo Black one and a Water Buffalo Burgundy one. It looks like a particularly American style here in Europe, but they really rock! I can’t wear any other.
Lenses on the shelf at home or in my second bag, a Think Tank Airport TakeOff Rolling Camera Bag:
Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II – I use it for architectural shots, but not for every wedding.
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 II – When I’m in a hurry it helps me do everything, but it is a little bit too big.
Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 II IS – This is a lens that allows me to be very discreet when the atmosphere is nicely relaxed and I cannot get too close to my subjects.
