Naman Verma

I, Naman Verma, am a fine art wedding photographer from India. Photography came into my life when I was pursuing my degree in medical sciences.
The journey started with me taking self-portraits as an extension to my drawing and painting skills. There is a sense of surrealism in my wedding photos as well, if you look closely.
For me it has never been about a shot but the unsaid stories within the shooting experience. I am all about things which are not seen by the naked eye but a soul which feels what cannot be said through any other medium.
The world is material but I am still looking for a metaphor in it. Anything which can allow me the space to create what is not felt is exactly the domain I am looking for.
As far as the gear is concerned, I have recently started using a Nikon D850 and it’s one hell of a camera. I am extremely happy with the overall build and output. The rotatable touch screen acts as the cherry on top.
Before this, I was using the Nikon D750 as my primary camera (which is now my secondary camera after I got my hands on the D850
). I still love it so much and believe that was my one of my best investments. It is an absolutely phenomenal camera for any wedding photographer.
I also own a Nikon D810 which is superb for fashion and landscape photography. Whenever I am vacationing and want to experiment with some different shots, this is my real hero.
My workhorse lens would be a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens. I always feel that I can frame better with a 50mm then anything else. Also, the first lens that I ever bought when I started taking self-portraits was a 50mm f/1.8
so I am very comfortable with this particular focal length.
Other lens that I love is a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art. In a nutshell, I can shoot an entire wedding with these two lenses and won’t regret it. Both work like a charm on my cameras.
I know most people would say Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art is their favourite lens in the world and I can’t agree more, but whatever works for you is the best. I occasionally use it when I am in no mood of using a 50mm and want to go a little closer to shoot some intimate moments.
I freelens (A technique in photography when the lens is not attached to the body of the camera) a lot! Most of the time you will find me “freelensing” with my broken Nikon 50mm f/1.8D lens.
It is through photographer Sam Hurd that I got to know about this and I can’t thank him more for sharing his knowledge with the world. Cheers!
Other lenses and gear in my kit are Nikon 85mm f/1.8G which is still as good as new because I haven’t used it much, along with Godox V860 II
and Yongnuo YN-568EX
with some Magmod
added to it.
Teeny tiny things such as prisms crystals are always lying in my Vanguard Uprise 48 Backpack. I like backpacks more than trolley bags as I find them easy to carry.
Photography today is not just click, edit and post, like many people claim. It is a work of art and needs its due share of artists who invest and celebrate it by creating and exploring new techniques and frames.
I maximise this by bringing freshness through every capture. Hoping others join the community too!
