Sittig Fahr-Becker

Hi, my name is Sittig Fahr-Becker. I’m a photographer based in Munich. At first I was a bit on and off with photography as I just did not have the patience to wait for the film to be developed.

I was studying town planning in London in 1998 at Westminster University when my flatmate brought an Olympus D-500L digital camera home. After playing with it for a while I just had to have one for myself.

Initially I went through some early models of consumer cameras and did some Photoshop 4.0 courses. Canon then (finally!) came out with the Digital Rebel, which was my first real digital camera. As megapixels and quality were not that high I switched as soon as I could afford it and went for the Canon 20D.

The Canon 20D was a real treat. However, when the Canon 5D came out the full frame sensor was irresistible. But I was still looking for more quality, especially in low light, so in the end the Canon 1DS Mark III was the best fit for me.

I used the Canon 1DS Mark III until this year for my product photography, with my Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L, Canon 70-200mm f/4L and Canon 50mm f/1.2L.

During that time I also used the Mamiya RZ PRO II with film as it had a wonderful look and feel and I mainly used it for street and portrait photography.

The story doesn’t end there. Fuji entered the market with its Fuji X-Pro1 and a new sensor that has this amazing quality and low light abilities. Working with artificial light all the time in still-life photography, I really don’t want to use it for anything else.

With the Fuji X-Pro1, Fuji X-Pro2, Fuji XF 18mm f/2, Fuji XF 35mm f/1.4, Fuji XF 60mm f/2.4 Macro, Fuji XF 56mm f/1.2 R, Fuji XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS and the Fuji X-100F, I now have the perfect street and reportage kit.

I recently sold all my Hasselblad equipment and bought a Fuji GFX 50s with the Fuji GF32-64mm f/4 R LM WR. Working with the GFX is just amazing and really gives me the quality and detail I’ve been looking for.

I mainly use the GFX for my product, still-life and portrait photography, where it really shines. Its detail and quality always get the job done – you don’t need a fast camera for these kinds of jobs. Working with it simply is a pleasure and I haven’t regretted switching for a moment.

For high ISOs, I use the Fuji X-Pro1 and 2 or Fuji X-100F. They are not that fast, but I like working with them. They are small, inconspicuous and the picture quality is fantastic. Due to the new sensor design, high ISOs are really useable. So far I have had no need to use a flash when working with them. They are perfect for my street photography and smaller shootings.

The lighting gear I have settled with is the Elinchrom Ranger Quadra RX, Elinchrom D-lite RX4 as a backup, and various light shapers.

The reason I settled on Elinchrom is that I was familiar with them from university. They brought out the Elinchrom Quadra RX when I was looking for something portable. They are a great tool for me as some clients prefer to have their pictures taken at home or in the studio so I don’t have to carry a lot of equipment with me.

Other equipment I use include a X-Rite MSCCPP Passport ColorChecker, some Lance camera straps, a Fuji EF-X20 Flash and a Gitzo GT-3340L Series 3 Aluminum Tripod.

The Canon 20D was a real treat. However, when the Canon 5D came out the full frame sensor was irresistible. But I was still looking for more quality, especially in low light, so in the end the Canon 1DS MK3 was the best fit for me.

I used the Canon 1DS MK3 until this year for my product photography, with my Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L, Canon 70-200mm f/4.0L and Canon 50mm f/1.2L.

I just sold my entire Canon equipment and bought a used Hasselblad H3DII-31 withe the Hasselblad 80mm f/2.8 HC and the Hasselblad 50-110mm f/3.5-4.5 HC. Working with it is just amazing and really gives me the quality and detail I’ve been looking for. The lighting gear I have settled with is the Elinchrom Ranger Quarda RX, Elinchrom D-lite RX4 as a back up and various light shapers.

I mainly use the Hasselblad for my product, still-life and portrait photography, where it really shines. Working with it simply is a pleasure and I haven’t regretted switching for a moment. For high ISO’s I use the Fujifilm X-pro1 or Fujifilm X100s.
