Good review, but I don’t know where you are getting your pricing from. It is $149 on sale right now for the lifetime and $99 or $119/year for the subscriptions. Might want to update the review.

The Luminar NEo lifetime pricing with extensions is $608 Canadian ($455 US). Perhaps the software is worth it, but I think it’s important to note — it’s price prohibitive for many users and certainly for casual users.

It’s also not clear on the site how “lifetime” lifetime is (whether it includes all subsequent upgrades including renamed products (Luminar this, Luminar that, and Luminar the other). This is relevant, given past industry practices of discontinuing software while releasing eerily similar products with very similar names.

There’s a subscription version at $169 CDN a year that includes the extensions.
It might well be worth it, but it’s not a small price.

As a pro who already uses Photoshop, Lightroom, and Topaz, I like some of the features of Luminar and would give it a chance. But, at $169 a year, it would have to take the place of something — and that means adding a lot of nuts and bolts functionality. It’s not going to find its way onto my desk as an add-on to Lightroom and my other software.

Not worth the time or investment for professional workflow involving a 100+ image per day deadline. TOO CLUNKY & OH SO SLOW WITHOUT A FILMSTRIP. (WORKFLOW IS EVERYTHING WHEN YOU SHOOT FOR DAILY FOR A LIVING. I recommend just sticking with Luminar AI until a new release for NEO is possible. Before the war Luminar hyped this up so much it was annoying. Then the early purchasers had to wait beyond the promised release date. I understand needing to market for a profit, but to through around promises of something better when you know it is not a complete product is not very admirable.

In reply to Faye. Hey Faye, it depends on how large the files are to be honest. I tried using enormous Fujifilm GFX100s files (over 100mb each) and there's some strain on CPU, but you should go alright if your camera doesn't have such big RAWs.

Thanks for the review. I wanted to try Luminar Neo for colorizing BW images. But I could not find menu for changing Workspace which is essential to change layers(like split tone ). Are LN’s features limited in Windows? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the review – you mention a spike in the CPU. However, i found similar platforms like Adobe Lightroom to take up too much CPU and crash – could this be expected with Luminar NEO?

In reply to Nahhh. 30 seconds? What size files are you using?! That's ridiculous. I use an M1 14Pro too with 24MP RAWs and changes are never more than 3 seconds for the initial AI edit, then a split second for any (similar AI edit) after that. e.g. initial sky replace: 2-3 seconds. Subsequent sky replace less than a second.

Judging by some of the technical detail within these comments, it is quite clear to me that I’m amongst some of the elite photographers, whom I admire, of which I’m not one! I just take pictures to the best of my ability, which for me is all about composition and artistry, and little else. I can use Photoshop, but only scratch the surface with what’s available, but my photographs sell well! I did purchase Luminar 4, mainly for the sky replacement, which has been a big bonus. However, recently, I had the same problem as one of your viewers with Luminar 4, where it would open and close down!
I did find and update, and after that it has worked OK. Unlike another viewer, I have had great support from Skylum quite recently, and they have been very helpful, bearing mind they are based in Ukraine!
Great review by the way, so helpful, and I’m going to try Neo!
